Oppikoppi check list PART FOUR
So with only 7 days left until Oppi, it’s time to start getting our supplies together. I am usually ridiculously over prepared as the result of a very functional check list that I make every year. I thought that I would share my list with you over the next 87 days so that you can be over prepared too. If you’ve just tuned in, scroll down for previous parts. - Gina, Southern Pulse

Ashtray Electric @ Town Hall
Still Electric
After a pretty close to perfect performance by Wrestlerish on Friday night, Town Hall in Newtown, Joburg, was eventually buzzing with a tight but pretty neat crowd of people waiting in anticipation to hear the new stuff from Cape Town based Indie rockers, Ashtray Electric. The new album, “Measured in Falls” has made its way to Joburg on this leg of their album launch...

REVIEW: Wrestlerish @ Town Hall
When I heard that Wrestlerish and Ashtray Electric were playing at Town Hall I was super stoked on checking out the show. I’m quite ashamed to say that I hadn’t been to Town Hall before, nor had I watched either of the bands since last year. Admittedly I like any reason to hang out in Joburg CBD. It is easily my favourite place in the whole city.
Town Hall was not by any means full,...

2 Seconds with CrashCarBurn
Gina, Southern Pulse: How do you feel you have grown as artists since the first album in terms of song writing, live performances, music videos etc.?
Fabian, CrashCarBurn: I think we pay a lot more attention to detail these days. We spend hours agonizing over chords, lyrics and pretty much everything we do whereas in the past we might have not have been as meticulous. I think this comes from the realization that once something is recorded, that's that! It goes down on CD that way forever and there's no going back and changing it. That one little mistake you decided to let slide, or that lyric you weren't 100% happy with will stay that way forever, so you better make sure you're happy with what you've laid down. I think that principle filters down onto everything we do. The general rule is: Will we be proud of this 10 years down the line?

Making a BESTival
For everyone who enjoys live music events, the age old music festival is a dusty heaven on earth. However, while live gigs may be everyone’s cup of tea, Bundu-Bash camp-outs are not. Perhaps it’s the lack of personal hygiene, abundance of dodgy drunk people and circulation of sex, drugs and rock n’ roll that gets the skin crawling or perhaps it’s just...
